Relaxing CBD Bath Bombs
Our CBD Bath Bombs were the coolest product we developed because the product had to be tested in water! Here’s a great video of the bath bomb in action:
The bath bombs have specific components that make our bath bombs unique: Baking soda, citric acid (a natural compound from citrus fruits), Epsom salt, cornstarch, hemp CBD infused mango butter, cocoa butter, and kokum butter, polysorbate 80 (this is needed to keep the oils from the bath bomb in the bath water), purple mineral powder for coloring, and lavender and chamomile essential oils.
Baking soda and citric acid don’t do much in the absence of water. Once water is added, though, the acidic citric acid helps baking soda convert to carbon dioxide. When that happens, the carbon dioxide (as a gas) bubbles out of the water. This is similar to baking soda and vinegar – the ol’ volcano science experiment. Because baking soda shouldn’t react until it hits the water, the solid citric acid is the best “acid” to add to the bath bomb. But, humidity (moisture in the air) will still affect the solid bath bomb. So, the bath bombs should not be left out in a humid environment, like the bathroom.
We add Epsom salt (which is magnesium sulfate) to our bath bombs to provide additional soothing to muscle pain, soreness, or injury.
Cornstarch is added to extend the time of fizzing. Simply put, the cornstarch gets in the way of the citric acid reaching the baking soda – similar to a traffic jam and you reaching your destination!
We developed “mini” bath bombs rather than one large bath bomb. This allows for a controlled amount of CBD to be delivered based on your specific situation. If you have a larger tub, consider using more than one mini bath bomb.
We always try to minimize any plastic components to our products. This includes not using plastic wrapping around the bath bombs, even though the shelf life would be much longer. The good news is that we have found a solution! We now wrap the bath bombs individually in a water soluble pouch. Each pouch and bath bomb can be added directly to the bath, whirlpool tub, and even a foot bath! The pouch completely dissolves in the water….it’s cellulose (a plant starch)!
